Amazon Rolls Out Robotic Delivery to Two New Cities
Amazon Scout, the e-commerce giant's fully-electric autonomous delivery robots, are heading south. Announced Tuesday in a blog post from Amazon Scout VP Sean Scott, Amazon says that it is set to start delivering to select customers in these markets as part of the company's continuing "field test" rollout. It has also been delivering packages in Snohomish County, Washington, and the Irvine-area of California. "We're thrilled to bring Amazon Scout to two new communities," Scott writes. "Adding Atlanta and Franklin to our existing operations gives Scout devices the opportunity to operate in varied neighborhoods with different climates than they operate in today. Amazon also has a significant presence in these areas through our corporate offices and logistics facilities. And, we know they are both great places to find world-class talent that can help us continue inventing for customers."

Amazon Scout heads south
At the start of 2020, Amazon Scout--our fully-electric delivery system designed to safely get packages to customers using autonomous delivery devices--was busy becoming fast friends with a variety of household objects. From surfboards, to luggage, to refrigerators, and even Christmas trees waiting to be picked up for recycling--our autonomous devices have navigated around all types of objects on the sidewalk. But a lot has changed these past few months. Amazon has been providing an essential service during the COVID-19 pandemic and working hard to get customers the products they need so they can continue to stay safe. Amazon Scout is quietly playing its part in this effort, too.

Meet Scout: Amazon is taking its Prime Delivery Robots to the South
Amazon has put delivery robots to work during the pandemic and is now expanding its fleet to cities in the South. The online retail giant said Tuesday that it's bringing its Amazon Scout autonomous delivery system to Atlanta, Georgia and Franklin, Tennessee this week. The news comes after a year-long test run in other locales. The cooler-sized rovers help to cut down on human-to-human contact during the nation's current coronavirus crisis. The vice president of Amazon Scout, Sean Scott, said in a blog post that the service helped the company meet increasing customer demand during the pandemic.

Amazon puts delivery robots on streets – with a human in tow
Amazon's drone delivery service may be missing in action but the company has not given up on its dream of robots delivering parcels. It is launching Amazon Scout, a service employing six squat six-wheeled delivery robots, across Snohomish County, Washington, just north of its Seattle HQ. "These devices were created by Amazon, are the size of a small cooler and roll along sidewalks at a walking pace," the head of the Scout project, Sean Scott, wrote in a blogpost. "The devices will autonomously follow their delivery route but will initially be accompanied by an Amazon employee. "We developed Amazon Scout at our research and development lab in Seattle, ensuring the devices can safely and efficiently navigate around pets, pedestrians and anything else in their path." In 2013 Amazon's boss, Jeff Bezos, launched Amazon Prime Air and announced an intention to begin offering flying deliveries direct to the home within five years.

Amazon's latest gee-whiz invention: Scout, the friendly neighborhood delivery robot
The latest gee-whiz project from Amazon is the Scout robot, a cooler-sized automated delivery device that rolls along sidewalks to transport shipments to your home. Amazon's planes, drones, delivery trucks and relationship with the U.S. Postal Service apparently are not all-inclusive enough to handle the online retailing giant's logistical challenges. Enter Scout, an electric-powered delivery robot. Amazon has begun testing six of the cooler-sized, six-wheeled robots in a neighborhood in Snohomish County, Washington, about 60 miles northeast of Amazon's Seattle headquarters. Initially, the Scout robots will operate Monday through Friday during the daytime.

Amazon Is Rolling Out a New Package Delivery Robot Called 'Amazon Scout'
Amazon.com Inc. will use robots to deliver packages in the suburbs north of Seattle, its latest experiment to automate the last-mile of delivery that's a labor-intensive and costly component of buying products online. The e-commerce giant on Wednesday announced a trial of "Amazon Scout," autonomous delivery devices the size of a cooler that roll along sidewalks at a walking pace. It will use six robots, which are designed to navigate around obstacles such as people and pets, to deliver packages in Snohomish County. The robots will be used to make deliveries Monday through Friday during daylight hours. Using robots to make deliveries outside on city streets will be much more challenging than most current common uses, such as moving items around in warehouses, hospitals and hotels that are well-lit and have level floors, said Dan Kara, vice president of robotics at WTWH Media.
